Analytical chemistry
Ensuring quality in terms of consistency in efficacy is a major challenge in herbal standardization, especially since raw materials of plant origin can vary greatly depending on a variety of factors such as geographical location, cultivar, stage and season of harvesting, method of processing, and so on. The ubiquitous occurrence of pollutants and adulterants also poses a significant difficulty. Furthermore, techniques for standardizing and evaluating herbal materia medica may not always exist.
To address these problems, Ayurvet Limited’s R&D Division has established a specialized analytical development section. The section is staffed by highly skilled chemists and pharmacists with extensive experience and a thorough grasp of phytoanalytical procedures. The department includes analytical chemistry and instrumentation laboratories. The analytical chemistry laboratory provides a comprehensive wet chemistry setup for sample preparation, analysis, titration, digestion, and extraction. The department is responsible for developing analytical methods for qualitative and quantitative tests, as well as establishing specifications (STP/SOP/RMS/FPS) for use by the QA/QC functions in evaluating raw materials and final items. Analytical technique development and analysis include those for phytochemical markers in raw materials to preserve their quality and authenticity, such as entire plants, roots, rhizomes, leaves, fruits and seeds, stem, bark, essential oils, and so on.
