Phytochemistry is a fundamental competency at ZES Bioscience Pvt. Ltd. The phytochemistry laboratory isolates phytochemical markers used to standardize plants and herbal compositions. Highly purified phytochemicals are extracted and described for use as reference standards. Bio-assay-guided fractionation of plants is commonly used to isolate new phytoconstituents. The laboratory also develops novel extraction processes for various medicinal plants as well as refines current ones.

The plant extracts generated from them are standardized to contain certain amounts of physiologically active constituent(s). For plants whose active / markers are unknown, bioactivity-guided fractionations are performed, and active / biomarkers are extracted for standardization. Chemical entities extracted by column and flash chromatography are fully analyzed using traditional and sophisticated spectroscopy techniques (TLC, HPTLC, and HPLC) techniques.
